Artist Statement

Leah Springate is a Printmaker and Book Designer. She graduated with honours from the Ontario College of Art where she specialized in Printmaking and Book Arts. After a 20-year career in trade publishing designing books, she left the publishing world to focus on producing her own work as co-proprietor of Mammoth Hall Press, a private printmaking and design studio. She has worked in many printmaking methods including linocut and woodcut, etching and drypoint, screen-printing, cyanotype, and letterpress. Her work reflects her interests in science, nature, and pattern — and how these images are rendered and stylized in various media. She is currently exploring how these interact by composing mixed media collages. Her work is held internationally in public and private collections.
Mammoth Hall Press was established in 1990 when Leah and her partner Paul Hunter were both students at the Ontario College of Art. They began by making small editions of hand-printed, hand-bound books. Over the years the Press has evolved to encompass all of their creative output.
