Click on a photo to open it full sizeJayne has been painting on porcelain for more than 30 years. She has taken classes and seminars with many teachers to learn brush control, design principles, colour wheel, and how the firing process works. The paints we use are mineral powders mixed with an oil to make a paste. Brushes are made of squirrel hair and are lubricated with mineral oil to apply the paint to the surface of the item being painted. This could be a porcelain or ceramic tile; cup and saucer, any size of plate or even jewellery blanks. The colours are built up through several paintings. After each application of paint, the item is placed in a kiln and fired to a temperate of at least 1300℉. An item is usually fired three times to achieve the depth of colour desired. She also paints on unglazed porcelain or ceramic items such as Easter eggs, figurines, etc.

She also use photographs to design her pieces and help her to see the rich colours in nature. From some of these photos she has made blank greeting cards and book marks.
