Artist Statement

I have lived in this area for over 45 years.
I studied fine art at the University of Windsor, and have taken many courses in a variety of mediums at Canadore College in North Bay. I taught visual arts in the education system for over 20 years. I have also taught for Canadore College both in North Bay and in Parry Sound. Recently I have been teaching and running work shops out of my studio. I have had the pleasure of doing painting workshops for the Saugeen First Nations several times. I also have worked on many sets for the Roxy Theatre from the Sound of Music to designing, building and painting “Brigadoon”,“Born Yesterday”, where I painted the U.S.Capital building and I was lead painter for Cinderella.
I started out as an oil painter in the 1970’s, changed to watercolour in the 90’s, chose Acrylic for the last 20 plus years. I think having painted in so many mediums including chalk pastel, casein, and ink has given me a substantial tool box of techniques.
I paint a variety of subject matters focusing on how light works. Light sets the mood, from bold and dramatic, to soft and soothing. Sky and water are also very important elements in many of my paintings
