Bochord Bookbinding

STUDIO #6

Artist Statement

My work as hand bookbinder is focused on two often competing interests – to make a physical object that is going to withstand use for as long as possible, and to make something engaging to the eye and marvelous to the touch. I have a particular interest in historic book structures and how the codex has been shaped by history and human ingenuity.

Books are often beloved objects – not just for the story they hold, but the physical weight and smell have been a part of the human story for thousands of years. Being able to explore that particular relationship – between human and object – is what drives me to keep learning, experimenting, and making.
