STUDIO #4

Artist Statement

I’ve always been fascinated by myths and fairy tales. As I child would play in the forest behind my parents’ cottage in Wasaga Beach, imagining alternative views of the landscape. This body of work that I am currently working on takes some notes from the Pre-Raphaelites but also adds a looser brush stroke here and there as an emphasis of energy, or sound or a vibration of the wind. Pure colour, the energy of trees whispering to each other, the depth of the water as an element of emotion. Dreams and reality merge.
I love the process of layering paint using oils, so I start with a simple tonal underpainting and then work on it adding a depth of colour into the work. This is almost a spiritual approach for me that allows me to evolve as I move forward, soaring to that point of energy that allows the viewer to become caught in the artistic expression. I see art as an act of magic, a spell, that opens doors to reveal the hidden depths of the world around me.
